Ice pick scar is one of the scars that are left behind by an acne that is not treated appropriately. This scar is considered as the most apparent and agonizing acne scar. It is often reported to generate emotional side effects too. Ice pick scars are sharp and narrow scars. They are usually deep and small in diameter and have steep sides making the skin to look like stabbed by an ice-pick wound. It can extend into the lower dermis or subcutaneous layer, make it too deep to cure with skin resurfacing procedures such as fillers, laser resurfacing or dermabrasion. The recommended treatments for ice pick scars include fillers, punch grafts, surgical excision, punch float procedures and other surgical removal and reparative procedures, - Filler Treatment Ice pick scar filling was good but it contains chemical substances thus are not the safest method of getting rid of scars. However, as more and more researches have been carried out by scientists, acne scarring now allows people can naturally fill in the ice pick scars by correct treatment. - Laser Treatment This treatment using laser newest technology to cure acne scars. It is expensive yet very effective to treat the scars, including ice pick scars. - Punch Excision Treatment Used to surgically cure ice pick and deep scars, this method uses a punch biopsy tool. It is a round, sharp "cookie-cutter" tool with the diameter around 1.5 - 3.5 mm based on the diameter of the scar. After applying local anesthesia the punch tool excises the scar. The skin edges are stitched together. This will lead to the fading of the scars. If it is still visible, resurfacing techniques or the application of skin regenerating accelerators can be used to clear the remaining scars.
