Learn more about Acne Scars
An acne scar is the mark left by a previous infection such as a spot, blemish or a pimple. The color can be red, purple or even brown. Most of this case is caused by incorrect treatment to remove acne. Acne most commonly affects the neck, face, shoulders, and upper back. The following are the main types of acne scars: Acne Scars - Icepick This is the most common type of acne scar. Ice pick acne scars have hard, irregular jagged borders and often the depth is irregular as well. It is usually too deep to correct with skin resurfacing treatments such as dermabrasion or laser resurfacing. The shallower type can be improved by stretching the skin. This scan usually happens on the cheek. Acne Scars - Boxcar Boxcar scars are superficial punched out scars that have sharp vertical edges on cross section, and can be round or oval shaped. It is usually occurring on the temple and cheeks, and can be superficial or deep. Shallow boxcar scars are 0.1-0.5 mm in depth and can usually be treated with conventional skin resurfacing techniques. Deep boxcar scars are over 0.5 mm in depth and require full-thickness treatment techniques. Punch incision is an innovative way of taking care of boxcar scars because it is a form of full thickness treatment technique. Acne Scars - Rolling Rolling scars appear as undulations in the skin. Conventional skin resurfacing techniques do not work on rolling scars. Rolling scars give the skin a wave-like appearance. It is commonly caused by tethering of the skin to underlying structures. It can be corrected by breaking up the subcutaneous fibrous bands. Although there are thousands of acne treatment options to control it, there is no best acne treatment that works effectively for everyone. This is because each person has different skin characteristics. The effectiveness of a specific acne treatment product also varies depending on the user. |
